Despite feeling chilled to the bone this morning (isn’t it funny how two months ago 33 degrees felt warm?) I am so happy to be here planning and starting our garden. In the interest of my sanity, I’m doing a mix of seed starting and purchasing plants from the farmers market for our garden. I would have loved to start all of my own seeds, but really, with unpacking, trying to find our groove here, building the raised beds, and near daily requests for chickens and bunnies (oh yes, they’ll be joining us this summer) I knew something would have to give. So, I have some calendula and ground cherry seeds started, as they’re not plants I’m likely to find at the market. We planted some kale in the ground this weekend, and as we move into summer and past these chilly mornings I’ll add zucchini, cucumbers, pumpkins, and pole beans that are directly sown into the ground. I’m planning to pick up tomatoes, peppers, mint, lemon balm, and chamomile as starter plants. We’re also going to put in a moon garden for the kids in the back of the house… we’re looking forward to spending many nights outside star gazing and catching fireflies so it will be a perfect addition for their garden! I love this time of year, so filled with dreams, hopes, and anticipation!!
There you have it- our kale is all tucked in and ready to grow and our sunny bay window has been taken over by seedlings. What are you growing this year?

J.Michael and I started a mini-garden this year. We planted Sweet Pea flowers, organic sweet peppers, and organic summer squash! Can’t wait to see what we actually end up getting…and silly me forgot to label the order I planted the seeds!
That is awesome! I think kids are natural gardeners.
Can’t wait to hear how it turns out!
